Hello there – I think I found the fitting lyrics and therefore the perfect song to start off today’s Songs of the Week post.
“I’ve been waiting all year
To feel this good
In the summer”
These words are taken from Kate Nash’s newest single Good Summer. And today it really feels like a good summer for a change. It’s 32 degrees outside, the sun is shining and there’s lots of happy people outside. Kate Nash is officially back in the pop world after a three year break and the very sunny and bouncy Good Summer sounds like she’s going for the pop princess throne.
The second song for this week is the one I decided to put on within the first twelve seconds which is two seconds after the vocals set in. False Alarm by Matoma features vocals by Becky Hill and her voice is just stunning and enough for the song to be great. The Norwegian producer has found a way to make a well made tropica piece that showcases the featuring singer perfectly, I like it and it’s quite summery as well.
If you’ve been dancing to the past two songs, here’s a little break to relax. Bright Lights by HAEVN, a Dutch indie pop band, is a beautiful song. Its simplicity and calm sound makes it the perfect song to chill out to. In addition, the lyrics are great as well, who isn’t looking for these bright lights to show them where their home is.
“Bright bright lights, bright lights to guide me home“
Do You Love Someone is the second song that Californian band Grouplove have released from their upcoming album Big Mess. It’s a driving and solid alternative rock song.
Speaking of driving songs, High Tyde’s Speak is another one. The post-punk band released their first single from their upcoming EP Real last Friday and it’s sounding great. It’s guitar heavy, has a catchy chorus and may be their best song yet.
And we’re finishing with a bang this week – literally. Green Day released a new single and it’s called Bang Bang. And no, it’s not a Jessie J cover. I think Green Day might be the first rock band I ever listened to and onestly, I still really enjoy their wild sound. It’s the first single from their new album Revolution Radio that will come our way on 7th October.
“Hurrah (bang bang)”
Rock on guys!
