I reckon everyone has heard Ed Sheeran’s new singles yet (if not, click here). But whilst he battles himself for the next UK number one and in the charts all over the world, there were other great songs released in the past week. And here’s my favourites on today’s Song of the Week.
DO YOU KNOW ME? is the question asked by British indie rock band VANT. Their debut album will be out on 17th February and this is one more taster. Sounds like it’s going to be a good one.
Flame by Sundara Karma is one of the two songs I put on here because of the related album. Sundara Karma’s debut album Youth Is Only Ever Fun In Retrospect is out since last Friday. It’s one of the albums I’ve been looking forward to a lot and I haven’t been let down. Every track has something different and great about it, but Flame is one of my favourites.
The other album I’ve been anticipating was You Me At Six’s Night People. I already had nearly every single released from this album on Songs of the Week. Hence, I’m happy there’s now even more new songs. Spell It Out is one of the ten album tracks. But you shouldn’t miss out on any of them, they’re all good.
Next, there’s a new song by one of my favourite newcomers of 2016: Dua Lipa. Thinking ‘Bout You is her sixth single and it shows a different side of her. It’s a little less dancey than the others and instead, there’s a mite more soul. I really like it. Dua Lipa’s self-titled debut album will be out on 10th February – watch out for that!
Hard Liquor by SOHN made the Songs of the Week list due to its unique sound. It is a mix of R&B, dubstep and electronic pop. I really enjoy that and the harmonies of the accompanying choir and the atmospheric feeling of the song.
Amber Run’s Fickle Game concludes this week’s new music listing. The folk pop song is a self-reflection of the band and the music business, states singer Joe Keogh. The newest single sounds fresh and honest – very enjoyable.
Happy with my choices? Or would you have put other songs on this weeks list? Let me know!
